Experts: DDoS attacks on Russian pay systems jump 126% in Aug

MOSCOW, Sep 16 (PRIME) -- The number of DDoS attacks on payment systems in Russia rocketed 126% on the year in August and reached 400,000 requests per second at the peak moments, cybersecurity company StormWall said in a research on Friday.

“DDoS attacks on the financial services were organized by a group of motivated hacktivists who sought not only to hurt the Russian economy but also cause problems to ordinary people using the services for financial transactions,” StormWall said.

The hackers’ main goal was to disrupt the regular work of services to make any financial transactions impossible. Some services had issues with carrying out deals during several hours, but the hackers failed to block functioning of Russian payment systems fully.

“The utmost capacity of the attacks amounted to 400,000 requests per second, and the maximum duration of the attacks lasted eight hours,” the company said.
